Stanced Out: Nissan 350Z

Nissan-350Z-Stanced-Out

Aside from the drifting motorsport phenomenon during the past decade in North America, the next most popular thing making waves in the automotive world is what is known as the aggressive fitment movement or as sometimes referred to as stance movement in short.

Sam Afzali, owner of this 2004 Nissan 350Z (Touring Edition) is no stranger to the tuning scene. Sam is the founder of Division R Performance a full show n’ go team of enthusiasts based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. His unique Stanced Out 350Z has won numerous awards on the show circuit and has gained a fan following – surprise, surprise.

Unlike other Zs you see on the show scene, Sam kept his true with form and function in mind – it is a daily driver after all. No engine swap, turbo kit or anything radical done to the VQ35. However, what you will find are some slight tweaks including a Takeda short ram intake system, HKS grounding kit, OBX pulley, WeaponR silicone hoses, a JWT lightened flywheel, a custom Stage 2 software tune and fuel remap. For added bling under the hood, Sam fitted a series of carbon fiber goodies including engine cover, cooling plate, battery and brake cover as well as a set of purple anodized Dress Up Bolts that make the engine bay pop with colour.

For the aero of the slammed coupe, an Ings+ front lip was moulded to the OEM Nissan bumper giving the Z an “OEM-plus” look as Sam puts it. An OEM-style Seibon carbon fibre hood adds for a clean finish on the front end while the rear received two lip spoilers by SARONA for the rear window and trunk. For an even cleaner finish, Sam had all the 350Z emblem shaved and all fenders rolled / pulled for a more flared look without going completely over the top with a widebody conversion.

The cockpit of the Z has remained functional with a touch of VIP-style tuning. For controls a Nardi steering wheel matted to an NRG short hub and quick release add a bit of race appeal. Shifting through the 6-speed transmission is possible through a BLOX Neo Chrome weighted shift knob and B&M short shifter kit. For electronics, Sam fitted an ATI gauge pod with AEM goodies including the must-have digital wideband and water temp readout. The VIP-style of the cabin can be found in front of the passenger seat, whereby Sam built a custom wood tray perfect for holding his favorite Tim Horton’s coffee and an AMF business card as is the case this time.

Securing both driver and passenger during commute are a pair of Yonaka Motorsport leather race bucket seats and Corbeau 5-point racing harnesses. A custom harness bar secures the racing seat belts as needed during spirited drives.

Onto the very reason this Z is so unique – its stance. A set of BC Racing coilovers allowed for the needed drop while SPC rear camber arms allow for the aggressive wheel fitment. For rollers, Sam chose a set of 19-inch WORK VS-XX sized at 9.5-inch (-8 offset) front and 10.5-inch (-13 offset) rear and wrapped in sticky and mega-stretched Hankook Ventus V12 tires.

Cars like these would not be possible without the support of friends and companies which believe in one’s vision. As such, AMF is proud to be on Sam’s 350Z alongside other names such as AMS Motorsports, Garage16, Battleground Performance, Import Fest, Stoner Detailing and others. For the record, Sam is rocking the AMF rainbow chrome with black backing decal – CDM-JDM at it’s best!

Out back in the tight confines of the Z’s hatch is where even more customization can be found. A pair of 10-inch Kenwood subwoofers (KFC-W2513PS) sit in a custom wood enclosure, complete with VIP (alcohol) bar above. Other Kenwood speakers within the car include two sets of two-way 6.5-inch speakers (KFC-X173). Powering the speakers and subs are two Kenwood amplifiers, one monoblock (KAC-9105D) and another as a 4-channel (KAC-8405). Did we mention the LCD screens as well for the added visual goodness?

With countless hours of planning and customizing, the results pay dividends with the finished project of this beautifully Stanced Out Z. Sure, it may not be the fastest or the widest, but it is truly unique and one that makes any enthusiasts young and old appreciate the rolling masterpiece that it is. For 2012, Sam plans on upping the Zs status with more power in way of forced induction and an even more aggressive wheel fitment. We can only imagine the outcome and look forward to seeing the finished project.

Sam would like to especially thank Rick from Garage16, Peter from NextMod, Rocky from RF Auto Collision, Mike from Battleground Performance, and the rest of the people who took initiative in the vehicle itself.

Future Modifications

Looking to go force induction for the 2012 season. A sponsorship towards this goal would be a great asset!

Such a clean car. Wish I can have a car as sick as his. Seen pics of his car before but its nice to read the feature. No offense to the photographer but I think its impossible to take an bad pic of this car. I was wondering how the owner fit such an aggressive set of rims with going widebody. Do you know if he just rolled or pulled his fenders? Also I see the wheel specs but I was wondering how much camber he had to run to fit those rims? Does he rub while driving normally or only on when turning or speed bumps?

Thank you, The fenders are rolled all around and flaird slightly in the rear. The camber is -4.5 . The wheels do not rub at all.
