In Memory of Senna

In two days time, the Ayrton Senna Tribute 1994/2014 event gets underway at Imola’s Enzo e Dino Ferrari circuit from 1st to 4th May. It’s a tribute in memory of the Brazilian champion, who died tragically in the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix. On the twentieth anniversary of his death and that of the Austrian Roland Ratzenberger, who also died during qualifying for this Grand Prix, the Imola circuit is opening its doors to the public for four days of motor sport memories. Among the guests who will attend the commemorative ceremony on Thursday at 13h30 will be Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen. Although they were both very young at the time, they were already keen enough about motor racing to be affected by Senna’s achievements.

“I think Senna set the standard for all drivers and he was definitely the best of his generation,” reckons Fernando on the eve of this sad anniversary. “What made him special was his great will to win and the numbers speak for themselves. He always fought right to the bitter end and that earned him the respect of all his colleagues and it’s what makes him a legend today. I was very little at the time and Spanish TV did not show Formula 1, but I began to know something about him as my father was a fan and my first kart was painted in the same colours as his car.” Although it was a long time ago, Kimi’s recollections are still vivid. “Senna’s death was an incredibly sad moment for the world of Formula 1,” says the Finn. “I was still at school back then and even if I don’t remember much about him, because I was too young, that day has stayed fixed in my memory. I think he was a great driver and a benchmark for many who came after him.”

Too Fast Motors – 3rd Year Anniversary BBQ

Too Fast Motors – 3rd Year Anniversary BBQ
Too Fast Motors
Toronto, Ontario, Canada
April 19th, 2013

The 3rd anniversary for Too Fast Motors at their Keele location just across York University began mid-morning although most cars began arriving around noon time – tuners tend to be a bit of the sleep-in crowd by nature especially on a Friday. TFM has been around for some time with history going back a few decades when the owner Basil used to race in the Middle East during his younger days. As one of the leading aftermarket parts and accessories retailers in the Greater Toronto Area and being in the business for eight years, they have had continued growth thanks to their affordable prices and family-like attitude with all their customers. There were a selection of that showed up ranging from the usual modified Subaru WRXs to Honda Civics, VW GTis, and even a sub-400hp Chevy HHR.

What’s not to love about an E30 BMW especially with mesh wheels and a custom roof rack?

The highlight of the anniversary BBQ is by far this V8-engine looking fully functional BBQ. If you had any doubt of its ability to cook up a mean burger, have none as everyone was served like a king including yours truly.

Inside the showroom, the counter was jammed packed with goodies ranging from brake components by Wilwood to HID kits and every other suspension or engine component you can imagine. The addition of ARK products has also gained them a new customer based as Basil puts it, “we wanted to expand from the usual Honda and Volkswagen customers to include the Hyundai Genesis and new Scion models as there is high demand for them and product support on a local level” to which we couldn’t agree more.

TFM was also proud to announce some huge product savings for those interested in upgrading their audio setups in way of Kicker speakers and sub-boxes. The question as always came down to, do you buy one or two?

Fast Wheels also introduced their new “Candy” line up of wild colourful wheels from an in-your-face green, to bright ruby red, and even a pink chrome. Also, TFM announced the addition of DAI Alloy added to their product line up. As a leading dealer in the Ontario market for some time, TFN offers the best price in the province with rims starting at $60 per wheel!

No other place offers a one-stop shop for all your car goodies like TFM and be it an anniversary BBQ event, patrons not only got some delicious food, but also some killer deals like this Kicker L7 10-inch sub with box enclosure ready to mount for $339.99!

TFM was also proud to announce the introduction of their Truck & SUV product line in their adjacent showroom space. Due to much demand from their customers, the need to expand into a market which is often forgotten. Parts (already available and on display) range from chrome brush guards, exhaust systems, and wheel / tire packages to anything else one could imagine.

After eight successful years in business and three of which at the Keele Street location, we want to congratulate Too Fast Motors for not only doing things their way (and different than other retailers locally), but for their on-going support of the local scene. Be sure to check them out for all your car parts and accessories – just be sure to mention AutoMotoFoto.net!

Lamborghini’s 50th Anniversary

In 2013, the 50th year since it was founded, Automobili Lamborghini is participating in the annual Techno Classica fair at Essen, where Lamborghini will be showing two of its supercars that have made automotive history, at pavilion 7.

Introduced in 1964, the 350 GT was the first mass-produced Lamborghini, while the 1972 P 400 Miura SV was the final evolution of the legendary Miura – the first super sports car with a modern design. Both vehicles on display were taken from the extensive collection of historic cars in the Lamborghini Museum at the company’s headquarters in Sant’Agata Bolognese, Italy. An expert on replacement parts for classic cars will also be at the stand to provide information on original spare parts for early Lamborghini models.

The Lamborghini 350 GT
Characterized by its balanced lines and developed by Franco Scaglione from prototypes of the 350 GTV, the 1964 350 GT was the first Lamborghini to be mass-produced. With its 3.5 liter, 12 cylinder engine perfected by engineer Giotto Bizzarrini and rated at 280 hp, it could reach a maximum speed of 250 km/h. The vehicle body featured aluminum components, four-wheel independent suspension and disc brakes on all four wheels. And, some models were equipped with a self-locking differential. By the end of 1966, 120 of these remarkable vehicles had been produced at Carrozzeria Touring. The final versions featured a 4 liter engine with the same power as the 3.5 liter power plant, but with greater torque. Carrozzeria Touring also produced two Spyders (350 GTS).

The Lamborghini Miura P 400 SV
Steady demand for the Miura S prompted Lamborghini to introduce a more advanced version called the SV (Super Veloce). This occurred during development of the subsequent, revolutionary model called the Countach LP 500, which made its worldwide debut in the spring of 1971. The Miura P 400 SV was equipped with a 4 liter, 385 HP V12 engine and attained a maximum speed of over 290 kmh.

Although it lacked the signature “eyebrows” over the headlamps, the SV stood out for its new rear suspension, wider track and more powerful engine. And unlike previous models, it was equipped with separate lubrication. The last Miura produced in January 1973 was purchased by a famous Italian industrialist. 150 of these remarkable cars were built from 1971 to 1972.

Original Lamborghini Replacement Parts
Preserving the models produced over the fifty-year history of Automobili Lamborghini is in the interests not only of Lamborghini itself, but also of the world’s countless keen collectors of the marque. Authorized Lamborghini Workshops specialize in servicing classic Lamborghinis. A web portal that can be entered from any point in the world provides access to catalogues of every Lamborghini model and enables the desired spare part to be conveniently ordered. If a special component is not available, it can be produced right away from the original blueprints. An expert in the sector of replacement parts will be at the Lamborghini stand at Techno Classica to answer questions about obtaining original parts for classic Lamborghinis.

Lamborghini’s 50th Anniversary
In 2013, Automobili Lamborghini is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its founding with a series of international events involving customers, dealers and fans of the marque. The festivities will hit their high point with the “Lamborghini 50th Anniversary Grande Giro”.

On May 7-11, 2013, more than 300 Lamborghinis from every period in the company’s history will travel 1200 kilometers along the Italian peninsula. On the first leg, Lamborghini owners from 29 countries will journey from Milan to Forte dei Marmi. Next, they will continue on to Rome, and finally return to Bologna on May 10. On May 11, a Concours d’Elegance will be held in Piazza Maggiore in Bologna, and all participants will then parade to Sant’Agata Bolognese, where Lamborghini 50th celebrations will culminate in a festive gala dinner.

The Chevrolet Corvette – 60 years of Iconic Design

  • Chevrolet Corvette plays a big role in Hollywood
  • Launch of the new Corvette 427 Convertible Collector’s Edition

Famed for its enviable looks and powerful performance, Chevrolet‘s legendary Corvette is celebrating a unique milestone in the upcoming year – its 60th Anniversary.

The Corvette exemplifies a true sports car – simply cool and exciting, traits that have been underlined by its image in pop culture. However, undeniable style isn’t all that the Corvette possesses – it is safe and more importantly, comfortable for everyday driving.

The fame of Corvette has long been established through its success in American culture and its technical refinement. Over the course of time, a wide variety of innovative features have contributed to its growth: Examples from the last decades include extended mobility tyres (also known as run-flat tyres), the head-up display, which projects important data on the windshield in plain view of the driver, as well as magnetic selective ride control which enables real-time damping.

Together with its constant technological advancements, the demand for Corvettes to appear alongside famous actors and actresses has also not died down. This trend serves to illustrate America’s 60 year old love affair with the iconic car.

Corvette takes the lead on the silver screen

Chevrolet’s significance in the American cultural landscape is as obvious on the streets as it is in the arts and entertainment. From action-packed adventure films to TV dramas, Chevrolet’s Corvette has taken 1,434 lead or supporting roles in television shows and Hollywood films, firmly establishing itself in American pop culture.

The Internet Movie Cars Database has recognised top movies featuring Corvettes – a short selection includes:

  • Rush Hour (1998) – James Carter, the fast talking and quick witted detective, drives a sleek 1971 Chevrolet Corvette. The car makes for a perfect accessory to his quick paced, exciting, and adventurous lifestyle.
  • CARS 2 (2011) – Chevrolet NASCAR legend Jeff Gordon provides the voice for a Corvette C6.R character called Jeff Gorvette in the Disney-Pixar-animated film.
  • Corvette Summer (1978) – The leading man heads on an adventure to find his stolen 1973 Corvette Stingray, the ultimate object of desire in this classic teen summer movie.
  • Route 66 (1960-1964) – The iconic vehicle that stays true to the characters throughout their travels is a red 1960 Chevrolet Corvette convertible. The first season originally used a 1959 Chevrolet Corvette convertible, but then upgraded to the 1960 in the second season to push the newest product. Coincidentally, this product placement caused Corvette sales to double during the first season alone!
  • Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009) – The sexy silver 2009 Corvette Stingray concept car was featured as Sideswipe, Autobot sidekick to Optimus Prime, giving the Corvette a mysterious and powerful aura, almost “out of this world”.
  • Glee (Season 2, Episode 2) – The 2011 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport proved to be an instrument of power for Will Schuester and his arch nemesis Carl Howell when it came to vying for the attention of sweet-natured guidance counsellor Emma Pillsbury. Maybe Corvettes are more instrumental than music to gain the attention of the woman you love?

“Corvette is admired the world over and there are few world-class vehicles that can match its iconic status and successes,” says Chevrolet Europe public relations director Vijay Iyer. “Big or small screen stories go beyond movie theatres, creating a unique emotional bond with the audience.”

Launch of the new Corvette 427 Convertible Collector’s Edition

The new Corvette 427 Convertible Collector’s Edition was specifically built to commemorate the 60th anniversary of this legendary sports car. It is the fastest Corvette convertible ever built and includes the high-tech features that the nameplate has become renowned for.

“For almost 60 years, Corvette has offered state-of-the-art features, technologies and incredible performance,” says Executive Chief Engineer Tadge Juechter, the man responsible for overseeing the design of the Corvette 427 Convertible Collector’s Edition.

With 60 years in its pocket, the Corvette continues to embody both technological advancement and fame in the film industry. Like wine, the Corvette only gets better with age! And the story is far from over: Next year’s North American International Auto Show in Detroit will see the official reveal of the much anticipated Chevrolet Corvette C7.

The SLS AMG GT3 “45th Anniversary” Collector’s Item

With the new SLS AMG GT3 “45th ANNIVERSARY”, Mercedes-AMG is presenting an exclusively appointed special series which is aimed at car collectors with a particular penchant for motor racing. The customer sports racing car is being built by hand in a limited edition of no more than five vehicles in Affalterbach. Record DTM champion and AMG brand ambassador Bernd Schneider is involved hands-on in the production process, installing the AMG 6.3-litre V8 engine in the SLS AMG GT3 “45th ANNIVERSARY” together with an AMG engine fitter.

The exclusive collector’s item is also a synonym for the successful AMG Customer Sports Programme: With 32 victories in the current 2012 Motor Sports Season and after winning three driver and team titles in the FIA GT3 European Championship, the ADAC GT Masters and the FIA GT1 World Championship, the race edition of the gullwing car of Mercedes-AMG is an impressive success story as well.

A number of exterior and interior modifications have been carried out for the special SLS AMG GT3 “45th ANNIVERSARY” model. The body of the SLS AMG GT3 “45th ANNIVERSARY” gleams auspiciously in the new designo magno graphite matt paint finish, for example. To date, this matt paintwork has been exclusive to the SL 65 AMG “45th ANNIVERSARY”, which was unveiled to mark the 45th birthday of Mercedes-AMG at the New York International Auto Show in April 2012. The AMG light-alloy wheels in designo magno graphite complement the body’s matt paintwork to perfection.

Another eye-catching feature is the striking “45 Years of Driving Performance” logo framed in silver on the GT3 racing car’s gullwing doors. The special edition’s logo embodies consummate design right down to the finer points of detail: closer inspection reveals the exposed carbon-fibre structure of the gullwing doors under the matt paintwork. The doors, along with the bonnet, mudguards, boot lid, rear wings, front and rear apron, front splitter and rear diffusor, are produced in the particularly lightweight motorsport material CFRP (CFRP = carbon fibre reinforced plastic).

The interior of the SLS AMG GT3 “45th ANNIVERSARY” evokes a functional racing car atmosphere, refined by high-quality, exclusive details: the steel roll-over cage is finished in matt “designo magno graphite” to match the exterior. The racing car’s dashboard and centre console sport a matt carbon-fibre finish. Effective contrasts are produced by six-point seat belts and a steering wheel with silver detail.

The collector’s item also boasts a seat shell in a high-strength carbon-fibre safety cell on the co-driver’s side. A special badge with a “1 of 5” logo on the seats and the centre console alludes to the limited production run for this racing car. The standard appointments for the SLS AMG GT3 “45th ANNIVERSARY” are rounded off by a high-quality AMG indoor car cover with “45 Years of Driving Performance” logo.

Bernd Schneider as a VIP engine fitter

In keeping with the exclusive exterior and interior equipment and appointments, the engineering under the bonnet is of a similarly exclusive standard. 48 year-old racing driver Bernd Schneider is assisting the AMG engine fitter responsible for installing the naturally aspirated AMG
6.3-litre V8 engine. The special AMG engine badge bearing the signatures of Bernd Schneider and the engine fitter attest to this high-calibre duo’s handiwork. Customers who acquire one of the rare SLS AMG GT3
“45th ANNIVERSARY” models also receive an exclusive vehicle certificate signed by Bernd Schneider.

The five-times DTM champion, overall ITC winner from 1995 and FIA GT world champion from 1997 works for Mercedes-AMG as a brand ambassador and an instructor at the AMG Driving Academy.

As an established expert in the field of SLS AMG GT3 customer motorsport Bernd Schneider has carried out the majority of the test drives for the racing version of the gullwing model. He also participates in selected races as part of the AMG driver support set-up. Bernd Schneider competed for various AMG customer teams in 2012, including the 24-hour Dubai race, at the Nürburgring and in Spa-Francorchamps. In the ninth race of the VLN Endurance Championship Nürburgring, Bernd Schneider took a start position together with Jeroen Bleekemolen (NED) for the AMG Customer Team Black Falcon and won the 4-hour race. After numerous podium positions in the past two years, this was his first victory with the SLS AMG GT3.

Vehicle handover directly at AMG headquarters

Handover of the SLS AMG GT3 “45th ANNIVERSARY” takes place directly at Mercedes-AMG in Affalterbach, where customers are also granted exclusive insights into the AMG world and have an opportunity to sample AMG’s hallmark excellent service and support quality. An in-depth introduction to the operation of the new vehicle and its engineering and technology is provided in the new 360 square-metre handover hall. In the case of this special GT3 racing car, this instruction is provided personally by AMG brand ambassador Bernd Schneider.

The programme also includes a tour of the factory, taking in the AMG Performance Studio, where exclusive series of individual AMG cars and one-off vehicles are developed and hand-made. This is followed by a visit to the AMG engine “Manufaktur” (hand-finishing section), where Bernd Schneider and the AMG engine fitter assembled this special AMG 6.3-litre V8 engine by hand. On request, the SLS AMG GT3 “45th ANNIVERSARY” customer can enjoy a race track coaching session as part of an initiation event with the vehicle.

Success on four continents, exemplary safety standard

The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 is the racing version of the SLS AMG which has been designed for customer motorsport. 49 such vehicles for short- and long-distance races have been delivered worldwide to date. In its first season in 2011, the gullwing model quickly established itself as the most successful newcomer of the motorsport year. International customer teams competing on four continents notched up a total of 26 wins. The vehicle’s successful run was crowned when HEICO Motorsport won the team rankings at the FIA GT3 European Championship with its two Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3s – the first title for the gullwing model in its first full racing season.

In the 2012 motorsport season the SLS AMG GT3 is competing in more than 15 racing series on four continents, including the FIA GT1 World Championship, the FIA GT3 European Championship, the ADAC GT Masters, the VLN Endurance Championship at the Nürburgring and the Blancpain Endurance Series. The triple victory in the 24-hour Dubai race in January 2012, three driver and team titles in the FIA GT3 European Championship, the ADAC GT Masters, the FIA GT1 World Championship and numerous places on the podium at various short-distance, 4- and 6-hour races demonstrate the SLS AMG GT3’s sporty performance in impressive style. For the time being, the 2012 season comprises 32 victories (1st October 2012).

The SLS AMG GT3 additionally offers an exemplary standard of safety which currently sets standards in GT3 racing. Mercedes-AMG develops and produces the customer sport racing car in close cooperation with HWA AG. HWA is responsible for development and deployment of the Mercedes AMG C-Class Coupés in the DTM on behalf of and in on-going consultation with Mercedes-Benz Motorsport.

Porsche Carrera Cup GB Revs Up for Tenth Anniversary Season

  • Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship celebrates 10th anniversary in 2012
  • A packed field of 22 identical 450 hp 911 GT3 Cup race cars will thrill spectators in support of the British Touring Car Championship
  • Youngest ever line-up of drivers on the grid, including 20-year old Daniel Lloyd, 2012 Porsche Carrera Cup Scholarship winner
  • Three categories – Pro, Pro-Am1, Pro-Am2 – provides close competition throughout the grid
  • The season kicks off at Brands Hatch, Kent, on March 31 –  April 1

The 2012 Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship will roar into life at Brands Hatch, Kent, this weekend with a superb 22 car field and an unprecedented number of young drivers bidding for glory. With a mix of raw talent and experience spanning the grid of identical 450 hp Porsche 911 GT3 Cup race cars, the stage is set for a fabulous tenth season for the Carrera Cup GB.

Across the eight promising young drivers in the Pro category, the average age is just over 23 and a half, giving the front of the Carrera Cup the youngest line-up in the ten year history of the Championship.

The 2012 season will also be the most cosmopolitan in the Carrera Cup GB story to date. As well as drivers from England, Scotland and Ireland, nations represented on the grid will include Australia, Belgium, Lithuania, Oman, Spain and Turkey.

Pro category
Michael Meadows, Championship runner-up in 2011, heads the entry alongside his Redline Racing team-mate Glynn Geddie and they make a formidable pairing. Meadows (Banbury) had a stellar season in 2011 and missed the title by a whisker, while Geddie (Aberdeen) returns to the Carrera Cup in pursuit of unfinished business and the young Scot will be fiercely competitive.

Ranged against the two Redline racers will be a trio of young chargers from Yorkshire with Team Parker Racing. Sam Tordoff (Leeds) and Richard Plant (Sheffield) showed fine pace last year and are ready to capitalise on the experience of their first Carrera Cup seasons, while Carrera Cup Scholarship winner Daniel Lloyd (Huddersfield) joins the squad and has already shown strong form in testing.

Reigning Pro-Am1 Champion Jonas Gelzinis (Lithuania) has stepped up to the top category with his Juta Racing squad and has natural speed in abundance. Parr Motorsport fields Ben Barker (Cambridge) and Chris Dymond (Towcester) to give the team a very promising line-up.

Pro-Am1 will be just as competitive, as Kirkaldy’s Rory Butcher (Celtic Speed), Edinburgh’s Oly Mortimer (GT Marques) and West Kilbride driver Derek Pierce (Team Parker Racing) try to corner the glory for Scotland. Ahmad Al Harthy (Oman Air/Redline), Irish racer Michael Leonard (Team Parker Racing), Manchester’s George Richardson (Parr Motorsport) and Carrera Cup newcomer Victor Jimenez (Redline Racing) will be battling to stop the spoils going north.

The Pro-Am2 field continues the theme of a ‘race-within-a-race’ and Celtic Speed’s defending Champion, George Brewster (Edinburgh), will be the benchmark for the new season. However, Hampshire driver Keith Webster (Redline Racing) came very close to taking the 2011 title and showed tremendous form at the pre-season test day at Silverstone in mid-March.

Meanwhile, Yucel Ozbek (Turkey), Essex-based Australian Tania Mann, Tautvydas Barstys (Lithuania) and Norfolk racer Will Goff add to the strength of ProAm2, along with Belgian newcomer Jean Glorieux.

After qualifying at 11.20 on Saturday, round one will start at 16.05 on Saturday, with round two at 13.25 on Sunday. Round two will be broadcast live on ITV4 during the extensive BTCC programme.

Porsche Carrera Cup GB

First run in 2003, the Porsche Carrera Cup GB is the fastest single marque racing Championship in Britain, and has established itself as the perfect platform for drivers looking to further develop their careers in GT sports car racing. With the identical 911 GT3 Cup race cars putting the emphasis squarely on driving talent, close racing is guaranteed.

The 911 GT3 Cup is the latest edition of the best-selling racing car of all time, having been built in a production series of more than 2,000 since 1998. The ‘Type 997’ 911 GT3 Cup racer is based on the iconic 911 GT3 RS road car, and powered by a rear-mounted 450hp 3.8-litre flat-six engine.

The 2012 Porsche Carrera Cup GB follows the BTCC, and features two races at each of the ten weekend meetings. The Championship is split into three categories – Pro, Pro-Am1, Pro-Am2 – with the top Pro division being where the overall title honours are decided. The Pro-Am1 category provides a good introduction to Carrera Cup for drivers new to the Championship according to their racing experience. Pro-Am2 offers competitors the flexibility to score points from their best seven race weekends, as well as the further attraction of a ‘race-within-a-race’ for individual glory.
