Safety is always the number one concern when it comes to motorsports. We have featured many videos of cars in various series crashing and thankfully due to both old and new technology racers have come out unscathed more often than not. A few months ago during the famed Pikes Peak International Hill Climb (PPIHC) there was an incident which not only rocked the racing world, but also went viral on the internet. The incident involved the Evolution Dynamics team piloting their Mitsubishi Evolution through the course at which point they entered a notoriously challenging (and life threatening) sector known as the “Devil’s Playground.” Driver Jeremy Foley and co-pilot Yuki Kouznetsov unfortunately came face to face with the reality of danger involved in the PPIHC when their Evo race car’s tires lost traction during a left turn and plunged over the hill. Thankfully and to the surprise of many, both driver and co-pilot walked away from the crash all thanks to regulated safety equipment and a little luck (as always).
RECARO USA recently released this video interviewing the Evolution Dynamics team and recalling that scary experience. Sure the video is a promo plug for the brand’s top grade racing seats, but it serves as a reminder that when racing (in any facet) to not overlook safety equipment regardless of the expense – in the end, you get what you pay for!
